After LA producer Julian Wass sampled music from the Xenogears video game for Main Attraktionz’s and Danny Brown’s “Cloud Skatin” track, he was inspired to put together a hip-hop tribute to honor Yasunori Mitsuda, the genius composer behind the music of classic RPGs Chrono Trigger, Shadow Hearts, and the aforementioned title. The result is MITSUDA, a 22-track album featuring sample-driven cuts from the likes of Ryan Hemsworth and Seattle’s KeyBoardKid206, among others. From the latter producer, we have “Secret Forest .. (Tree Music),” a tune built on the hypnotic swirl of looped blips and bloops, anchored by a ticking hip-hop beat, and topped off with an extra layer of sparse synth melodies.
