Glasgow producer Nightwave has shared a propulsive new track, “Grinder,” which splices together elements of bass, house, “retro-futuristic rave,” and techno, and is built around feverish drum programming, strobing synths, and skewed vocal snippets. The Red Bull Music Academy alumni has reportedly upped her output in recent months in support of the launch of her own Heka Trax imprint, while having released on a slew of labels in the past such as DJ Haus’ Unknown to the Unknown, Svetlana Industries, and Fortified Audio. Serving as a preview to Nightwave’s upcoming performance—along with 14 other Academy alumni—at the RBMA New York festival’s closing night celebration on May 31, “Grinder” can be grabbed below.
