London-via-Moscow beatmaker Lokiboi has appeared in XLR8R‘s Downloads section quite a bit over the past few years, but he’s never quite sounded like he does on “Midnight Tempo.” Here, Lokiboi hovers just above 100 bpm, lacing a shuffling four-on-the-floor beat with a mellow procession of chopped chords and murmured vocals—presumably the producer’s own. Sweetening the package, “Midnight Tempo” comes with a touch of vintage sensibilities, as Lokiboi utilizes alternating patterns of bright organ melodies and airy MIDI horns to top off the soulful house outing.
