When you listen to the music of LA-based artist Abyss X you can’t help but feel exhilarated. Her tracks seem to possess a certain quality that excites and bothers in equal measure. Her debut mini album, Nüshu, is set to drop via ever-reliable Montréal label Infinite Machine on November 25 and is a head-spinning ride through eight warped tracks. It’s intense and brutal in parts, but in others, there’s underlying beauty to be found. The album confronts you, aiming to “bring a sense of discomfort but also to act as a means to release emotions, anger, or frustration.”
