Earlier this month, Italian composer Francesco Novara released his latest EP, Astron, via Establishment.

The EP was entirely produced from two samples of a European spacecraft that visited (and landed on) a comet, marking a unique collaboration between the Establishment record label and the European Space Agency (a.k.a. ESA). This single source is then woven into the stunning array of sounds on the release, from the haunting pads to the melodies and the tight and tense drum programming. It’s a sprawling sonic space derived from the magnetic field of the comet and the ESA’s commitment to creative commons, open access and remixing of their content.
