Titled This Never Happened, the new album follows a return to the fold for Wagner, who had been quiet on the solo release front from around 2013 until this year when he released two EPs on Her Majesty's Ship (No Love and SlamDunk Cha-Cha). On the new album, the always eclectic and shape-shifting artist serves up a collection of varied disco-tinged cuts and inspired covers of Frank Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood. The record was produced by entirely by Yan himself and favors first take recordings over post production. It's also a record that keeps its true intentions hidden behind sonic mirages, as Wagner explains:
"The songs on this record are a series of lies; views of the mind. ‘This Never Happened’ is a collection of stories that never happened. Ten tracks talking of vain loves, of nocturnal experiences and of life and truth, which are all so short.”
In support of the release, Wagner has offered up the album's opening cut, "This Never Happened," as today's XLR8R download, available via WeTransfer below.
