Maxwell “Monika” Sweeney is a UK-born, New Zealand-based producer. The 26-year old started producing about eight years ago, after discovering his love for the genre at London’s once super-club Matter, courtesy of a Hospitality event. After acquiring a MacBook and picking up a copy of Logic, he got to work at carving out his own sound, taking influence from Machinedrum, DjRum, Om Unit, and Stray, among others. His work landed a track on Med School’s New Blood 014 a few years back, after a string of solid releases on Ingredients Records, and he’s now set for an EP on Soulvent, titled Fortress. We’re told to expect an “intriguing mixture of broken beats and ambient cuts, an incredibly soulful collection of forward thinking cuts.”
