Spires is a new collaborative project between Phil Kieran and newcomer Koichi—who, although unknown to some, has been involved in the techno scene, DJing and producing, since the early 2000s. Spires released its debut EP at the end of last month on Phil Kieran Recordings, finding the pair meeting in the middle between Kieran’s mastery of analog synths and outboard processing, and Koichi’s darker UK techno influence and use of field recordings. In support of the release, XLR8R has been handed a dub version of warehouse ready EP cut “Spires.” The deep and dark cut has all the hallmarks of both artists, with slicing drum-machine percussion, haunting textures, and a devilishly grumbling low end front and centre. The dub version of “Spires” can be picked up for free below, with the EP available for purchase here.
