When we last heard from Memotone, the UK producer was on the verge of dropping his six-track Hands EP in March. In the five-month gap since then, he’s been hard at work, reportedly sequestering himself in a centuries-old cottage and going as far as mastering 11 instruments in preparation of writing and recording his forthcoming LP for Black Acre, I Sleep. At Waking (out October 15, artwork above). Now, you can listen to some of the results of that intense labor, the lushly and intricately produced “Suburb.” Memotone’s track begins with a disjointed stagger, as moody strings and other atmospherics are slowly woven into the mix. Then, without warning, “Suburb” dies out in a sudden halt, only to immediately reanimate with newfound vigor in the form of a skittering rhythm.
