The bass-fueled, club-ready sounds of Friend Within first landed on XLR8R back in March of this year with a free download of shuffling house workout “The Cause.” Since then, the anonymous project has delivered an EP for Dirtybird, appeared on a number of comps, and been tapped for a handful of remix duties. With the new Renegade EP, Friend Within joins the ranks over at the Disclosure-helmed Method label, and to mark the release of the new material, the Liverpool-based producer has offered up non-EP cut “The Birth,” a particularly tech-infused slice of UK-flavored house. Imbued with just a bit of jacking rhythms, the tune focuses on tuned bell stabs and an endlessly descending bassline, all of which help make “The Birth” a robust piece of dancefloor fare.
