Next week, veteran Detroit house producer and flat out incomparable DJ (not to mention former XLR8R podcast contributor) Terrence Parker will release Life on the Back 9—his first full album under his given name since 1999—via Carl Craig’s Planet E label. Ahead of the long-awaited 12-track effort’s official release, Parker has given us the premiere of his forthcoming LP, the entirety of which can be heard exclusively on XLR8R.

Life on the Back 9‘s golf-referencing album title is no accident, as Parker explains the name was inspired by a story his father shared with him about bouncing back in the game during the last nine holes of a golf course, otherwise known as the “back nine.” Furthermore, Parker explains in the album’s accompanying press release that his latest LP is “about moving forward through hard times in life to see something beautiful on the other side of difficulties.” Finding out how that sentiment translates into the Detroit native’s brand of soulful house is as simple as streaming the full album below. Life on the Back 9 sees a full release on January 27.
