Gilles Peterson‘s Brownswood imprint will release the debut album from Yussef Kamaal on November 4.

Birthed from a one-off live session to perform Williams’ solo material for Boiler Room, Yussef Kamaal quickly became a fully-fledged project in its own right, performing a string of highly acclaimed shows across London, one of which—a 20-minute set at the Worldwide Awards—resulted in Giles signing the duo to Brownswood.

For their debut album, Black Focus, the duo channel the energy of those renowned shows into 10 mind-bending tracks that focus on the interplay between Dayes’ drumming and Williams’ keys. Taking inspiration from the anything goes spirit of ‘70s jazz-funk and the bass-saturated, pirate radio broadcasts of London, Dayes and Williams have crafted a beautifully free-flowing album that will surely turn some heads.

Ahead of the November 4 release, you can stream album cut “Strings of Light” in full below, with the album available to preorder at the Yussef Kamaal Bandcamp.
