Giesse has DJing for over a decade and has been a member of cultural association Dancity since 2010. Nowadays, he is the resident DJ at Serendipity Club in Italy’s Foligno, and co-founder of The label HomeMadeZucchero. He is widely recognized as a rising Italian talent, one who is truly committed to his work—and has compiled a new studio mix which is available to download below.

Giesse will be performing at Dancity Festival alongside Call Super, Dorisburg, Hieroglyphic Being. This year’s edition takes place from June 30 to July 2 in Foligno, Italy, with more information available here.

When and where was the mix recorded?

I have been recording this mix during the past week inside Serendipity’s main room, the club for which I have played as DJ resident for the past six years. I have chosen to record there as I don’t have CDJ at home, and the mix consists of tracks on both files and vinyl. Anyway, making a podcast inside a club I know this well turned out to be an interesting and fun experience as you can imagine how the public would effectively react to it.

Could you tell us about the idea behind it?

I wanted to make a mix that could briefly represent what I like to play lately. The first half of it is quite slow, but then it gets to 150 bpm without becoming way too aggressive. Lately, I prefer playing ‘’uptempo’’ DJ sets that can be at the same time somehow smooth; usually, these comprehend various records by artists I admire and artistically appreciate, especially Italian ones.

How did you choose the records in it?

I usually begin by selecting tracks carefully: I don’t record a lot of podcasts and those times I do, I tend to spend a lot of time on the musical choice. On the other hand, during the recording phase, I like it to be all as much spontaneous as possible, both the mix and the choice of the following track. Basically, the main work for me is to be done before the set itself. I’d rather go around with few records but carefully selected.

How does the mix compare to one of your club mixes?

The substantial difference for me is that during podcast sessions I can express and convey my most personal and intimate taste, whilst in front of an audience I tend to create an action and reaction sort of exchange, driving the people to appreciate what I like too.

What have you got planned for 2017?

During this month I have been mainly focusing on the production of Dancity Festival. In the meantime, I keep working with our label HomeMadeZucchero, run by me and my friend Meze, who released last week his new EP, of which one of the tracks is also featured in my mix. For HomeMadeZucchero we are also preparing our fourth release: it will be my first 12’’ on the label, and I really can’t wait for it to be out.
