In the past, the vocalist and spoken word poet known as The Spaceape (a.k.a. Stephen Samuel Gordon) has collaborated with a handful of producers, including Martyn and Hyperdub label boss Kode9. With little warning, Gordon has presented an intense solo debut EP, Xorcism, which was inspired by his experience living with a rare form of cancer called Neurolymphomatosis, and offered it up as a free download. The record contains seven brief and otherworldly songs that feature the Spaceape’s deadpan verbal flow and backing tracks of jangling, pattering rhythms and wordless monosyllables.
