Originally from Japan, Kyoka now splits her time between Tokyo and Berlin. Specialising in experimental rhythms, her approach is characterised by chaotic and heavy sounds. Kyoka’s next EP, SH, was inspired by a residency at Stockholm’s EMS Studios, and is full of “unforeseen shifts in beat, unpredictable repetitions and surprising clicks and bops.”
This year Raster-Noton celebrates its 20th Anniversary, and will be doing so with “White Circle”—an audio-visual project with works by Alva Noto, Byetone, Frank Bretschneider, and Kangding Ray. At its opening night on March 11, Kyoka will also join the bill.
SH will be available on vinyl from March 25 (as well as digitally with two bonus tracks) via the Raster-Noton store. You can stream one of the EP's tracks, "Smash/Hush," below.
