UK director Ben Dawkins has revealed a short film inspired and scored by the title track from Rival Dealer, Burial’s excellent 2013 EP for Hyperdub. Unfolding over 12 minutes, ”Dealer” trails a London drug dealer through a series of increasingly volatile encounters, playing off the dark soundscapes evoked in Burial’s original track—from the sounds of a car swerving through caustic breakbeats to the reverb-drenched melancholy of its closing chords. The film was given the go-ahead by both the Hyperdub label and the elusive producer himself (who, until recently, had largely remained anonymous) and can be watched in full below.
