Minneapolis MC P.O.S (of Doomtree) sincerely gives a damn about the world around him, but thankfully does so without getting preachy. On his third solo shot, Never Better, this punk rock-minded rhymer drops down-to-earth joints that were written mainly while he was in a moving car. With this observational approach, P.O.S shares narratives with a purpose (“Been Afraid”) and raps about conquering everyday strife (“Goodbye”). While you can easily get caught up in his reassuring rhymes, his mostly self-produced beats are usually just as strong. Sometimes reflecting a hazy rock influence and other times sticking to minimalist boom-bap, P.O.S has learned to broaden his sound more than ever.
